Of course, the best is subject to interpretation. But, there are products and services that, once all the web research is completed, stand out above the rest—sort of a general consensus. What we have done at this site is describe the products and services meeting that general consensus and/or passing the personal use test--our personal use.

Easy, inexpensive management of .zip file archives

RPF Software (common ownership with Skirp.com), a small technology company, develops and sells RPF ZipControl™, a handy archive manager of zip files. If you download zip files or create backups using the zip file format, RPF ZipControl is easy to use and only costs $25. And ZipControl works on multiple operating systems, e.g., Windows, Linux, OS/2, etc., since it is a Java application.

pair Networks, aka pair.com

Possibly the most reliable, stable, well-run web hosting service available. If you need a lot of handholding, this may not be the one for you. But, once you sign on, you will have access to the private newsgroups where fellow customers (as well as pair.com support personnel) provide advice for simple to complex hosting setups, authoring and business questions, custom email setups, etc.

Hint: pair.com occasionally runs specials for new customers. Check the web site for current specials.

Whether or not you are a customer of pair.com (web hosting), pairNIC is a great choice for your domain name services.

Hint: Pricing is much better and very competitive for multi-year (at least 5 years) registrations. If you are going to the trouble to register a domain name, you plan on keeping it for at least 5 years, right? And, unlikely as it is, if you later decide you don't like pairNIC's services, you should be able to transfer the paid-for years to another domain registrar. pairNIC is run by the same people that run the rock-solid pair.com.

Amazon may have the Internet's largest offering of products. If you can't find what you looking for in Amazon's primary "store", you will likely find it in one of its affiliate stores. Good pricing, often the best you can find; reasonable shipping costs; and good product availability make Amazon the first choice for many shoppers.
